Planning a 3 - 12 month trip to Australia, New Zealand and Thailand - Looking for advice and travel buddies

I am planning a trip to Australia,New Zealand and Thailand, Will probably be September time although dates are flexible.

I am looking to go to Australia first, will mainly be staying in hostels but might look to get a camper.

It would be great to get some advice about where to start, what are the must sees and which hostels are good, also if anyone is travelling at the same time would be great to meet up.
